Please Don’t Feed The Animals – We ask that you not feed the cats, dogs, horses, or birds (chicks, hens, and roosters included).
Ants and Bugs – Shut the doors before your turn on the lights at night! During the day when we are home, we usually leave our doors open all the time and the front gate locked. There are over 90 species and subspecies of ants in Puerto Rico. If you leave food on the counter (or anywhere else for that matter) they will find it!
Energy Conservation – Use the washer as needed, but please consider drying your laundry outside. If you use the bedroom air conditioner, please shut the windows and door to the bedroom and turn the AC off when you are not at home. Water and electricity are both very expensive in Puerto Rico.
Recycling – There is no curbside recycling in Vieques. Sadly, it all goes into the same trash can. Trash pick-up is typically on Monday night at about 10:00 p.m. but it could be on Tuesday or who knows when. Trash pickup is typically a very loud event, so be prepared!
Smelly Stuff – If you prepare lobster, fish, steak, or any meal that has an excess of fish or animal waste, please freeze those scraps as they decompose quickly (and really smell bad) in the tropics. Leave your wrapped scraps in the freezer and we will toss them for you on trash day unless you get lucky with the trash truck.
Plastic Bags – Plastic shopping bags are banned in Puerto Rico. We have provided reusable shopping bags for your use. You can also find them at the grocery store for purchase on occasion.
Cleaning Supplies and Cloth Napkins – Cleaning supplies are located under the sink, along with a dish strainer. Cloth napkins are provided for our use in a variety of colors.
Beach Sand – Please shake shake shake your stuff to keep sound outside and not inside. Our housekeeper and our appliances will thank you! There is a hose behind the upstairs front door for your feet and other small items. There is also a hose on the back porch and one on the side yard behind the white gate.
Personal Safety – Our neighborhood is very safe, but petty theft exists everywhere. We encourage you to lock the gate when you are home, and all the doors when you leave and at night. The light above the stairs is on a motion sensor. If you leave it on (bottom switch by the front door – turn it to the right or street-side) it will light your way back when you come home!
Internet – Our network name and password are located in the house book (The Internet) as well as in your Airbnb confirmation email. If you experience network problems, please let us know.
Parking – You are welcome to park in front of the house or anywhere on our side of the street or around the corner. Please don’t park too close to the corner as it makes it hard for traffic to make the turn. If parking is not available on our street, you are welcome to park anywhere in the neighborhood. Do not park on the opposite side of the street!
Water – Our water comes from the rainforest in Puerto Rico via an undersea pipeline. It is clean and safe to drink.
Questions – We are happy to share what we know about our island; pleases don’t hesitate to ask as we are here to help!
