In each apartment, you will find…
Beach Towels – They are big and blue and white. Please shake out the sand when you return from the beach.
Beach Chairs – They are in bags and very comfortable. Please rinse off the beach chairs when you return from the beach and let them dry. There are two upstairs. If you need more, please ask.
Ice Chests – They are red and white (and sometimes blue). Please rinse your ice chest when you return from the beach and let it dry with the lid open. There is also a small water cooler upstairs. If you can’t find the ice chest, please ask as we may have borrowed it!
Don’t forget to take bug spray, sunscreen, something to eat, and lots of fluids to drink.
Take as few valuables to the beach as possible. If you drive to the beach, leave your car empty, unlocked and your windows rolled down. If you do take something valuable, take it with you to the water’s edge and keep an eye on it. It is always good to have a beach “spotter” if you can find one (in your group, or even in someone else’s group).
Sun Bay has restrooms; Playa Caracas (the former Red Beach) has two pit toilets. La Chiva has pit toilets at #5 and #14. There is also a restroom facility on the road to the Reserve beaches, on the right-hand side, opposite the maintenance area. Other than these beaches and the maintenance area pit-stop, you are pretty much on your own.
Playa Caracas (and perhaps some of the other beaches) have sand spurs. These are nasty little weeds that will wreck your towels and wreck your feet. Try to avoid them at all costs.
Watch out for horses on the road if you drive. If you take a publico or taxi, please make sure you arrange in advance for a pickup time as cell phone service can be spotty on the Caribbean side of the island.
Some of the beaches have trash cans. Please remember to deposit your trash in a trash can or bring it back to town! If every beach visitor took a bag of trash home (or put it in a trash can at the beach) our beaches would be the cleanest beaches in the world!
