There are lots of wonderful places to hike in Vieques, but sturdy shoes, drinking water, and a hat are almost always required! Don’t forget the sunscreen, too!
Tickatove is one of our favorite conservation groups on the island, and they have done a tremendous job of providing information about some of the more popular hikes, along with pictures, directions, and maps.
Watch out for Comocladia dodonaea, also called poison ash or the Christmas bush. It is a species of tree in the cashew family, Anacardiaceae, that is native to the Caribbean islands. You will find it along the trails in certain parts of the island. Our rule is to give it wide berth, as the sap of the plant and the surface of the leaves contain an urushiol poison similar to that in poison ivy.
